Delete your Wonaby account

Deleting your account removes it, and everything Wonaby holds for it, right away. It cannot be undone. This page is for you whether or not you still have the app on your phone.

Before you delete

  • Keep a copy if you want one. In the app, tap your picture at the top left of the Home screen to open your Account, then Privacy and data, then Export your data. You get one file with your moments, photos, day notes, recaps, tags and conversations. The file is not encrypted, so keep it somewhere you trust.
  • Cancel your subscription first, if you have one. Subscriptions are billed by Google Play or the App Store, not by us, and deleting your account does not cancel them. On Android: open the Play Store, tap your profile picture, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, then Wonaby, then Cancel. On iPhone: Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Wonaby.

Delete from the app

It takes about a minute.

  1. Open Wonaby and tap your picture at the top left of the Home screen. That opens your Account.
  2. Tap Manage account.
  3. Under Danger zone, tap Delete account.
  4. Confirm it is you: your fingerprint or face, or your PIN. If you have no lock set, type DELETE instead.
  5. Tap Delete account. The app signs you out and removes its copy of your journal from this phone.

Delete without the app

If you have uninstalled Wonaby, or cannot sign in, email support@wonaby.com from the address you signed up with, with the subject "Delete my account". You do not need to send anything else, and we never ask for an ID document. We delete the account and confirm to you by email within one month, and in practice within a few days.

If you write from a different address than the one on the account, we reply to the account's address and ask you to confirm from there. That is the only way we can know the request is yours.

What is deleted

  • Your account and your email address.
  • Your journal: moments, photos, day notes, recaps, tags, categories and Ask Wonaby conversations, together with the files that hold your photos.
  • Your profile, your reminder settings and your subscription record with us.
  • The sealed copy of your encryption key. Your passphrase and recovery key stop meaning anything, because there is nothing left for them to unlock.

What we keep, and for how long

  • Pseudonymous usage and crash data, only if you had switched it on in Settings. It is keyed to a one-way hash rather than to your name or email, so we cannot pick out your records to delete them. It is deleted automatically within 12 months.
  • Purchase records. Google Play or Apple, and our subscription provider RevenueCat, keep the records of what you paid under their own rules. We do not hold your card details at any point.
  • Server logs, which include IP addresses, for up to 30 days.

After deletion

  • There is no grace period and no way to restore the account. If you come back, you start with a new, empty account.
  • If Wonaby is installed on another phone, uninstall it there too. That phone can no longer sync, but it still holds its local copy until the app is removed.
