Frequently asked questions
Anything worth knowing before you start.
Wonaby is a private record of the life you actually lived. You catch an ordinary moment in about ten seconds — a few words, how it felt, an optional photo — and Wonaby hands whole weeks, months and years back to you as retrospectives built from what you saved, with the patterns running through them pointed out. Everything is encrypted on your device, and every piece of AI runs on your phone.
A recap: a short, readable story of your week, month or year, written on your phone from the moments you recorded. It shows which parts of your life kept coming up, how the feelings you chose moved across the days, what was new, and what you came back to after a break. Tap any pattern and you land on the real moments behind it. This is the point of the whole product — capture is just what makes it possible.
About ten seconds. A few words about what's going on, a feeling you pick yourself, and a photo if you want one. There's no template, no prompt to answer and no blank page. You can speak it instead of typing it, too.
Yes, and it stays free. The free plan includes five moments a day with a photo on each, a day note written for you every day, five feelings, three of the six ready-made categories, and one weekly recap a month so you can see what one reads like. Everything is end-to-end encrypted, works offline, and can be exported.
Pro is €11.99 a month or €69.99 a year — your app store shows the price in your own currency. It opens every weekly recap plus the monthly and yearly retrospectives, Ask Wonaby, ten moments a day, twenty feelings, all six ready-made categories with ten of your own, and dictation transcribed on your phone. First-time subscribers get a 14-day free trial; it's the store's own offer, so it asks for a payment method up front and you can cancel any time. There are no ads.
It uses AI, and none of it is in the cloud. Day notes, every retrospective, pattern detection and the Ask Wonaby chat all run on your phone. Nothing you write is sent to a cloud AI or used to train any model. Be clear on what the AI does and doesn't do: finding the patterns is deterministic maths with no language model involved, and a small on-device model is used only to phrase your retrospectives and answer your questions. It never decides how you felt — you pick every feeling yourself.
Your journal is end-to-end encrypted; only you can read what you write. It's sealed on your device before it ever syncs, the keys come from your passphrase and never leave your phone unwrapped, so not even the Wonaby team can read it. That covers your moment text, feelings, retrospectives, Ask Wonaby chat, name and photos. Being straight about the boundary: for sign-in and sync to work, the server does see your account email, your category structure — names, colours, ordering — and some schedule and behavioural detail such as when you journaled. The contents stay sealed. Wonaby sells no data, runs no ads, and never trains a model on what you write.
Yes, with Pro. Ask Wonaby is a private chat that answers using only the moments you recorded, running entirely on your phone. Ask what made you happy last week or how you've changed this year, and it draws on your entries and retrospectives — and when there's nothing to go on, it says so instead of inventing something. Counts are real tallies, not estimates. On the free plan the chat is there to read: past conversations stay open to revisit, rename, delete and copy, but starting one or sending a message needs Pro.
No. There are no streaks, no completion percentage, no counter and no notifications shaming you for being away. Miss a day, miss a month, come back whenever — nothing breaks, because nothing was keeping score. If you do want a nudge, you set one yourself: one reminder a day, at a time and in a tone you choose, and one switch turns it off.
Fully. Capturing, day notes, retrospectives and Ask Wonaby all work with no signal, because they all run on your phone. Moments save the instant you tap and sync privately across your devices when you're back online. With Pro, dictation is transcribed on your phone too, so the only thing that needs a connection is the one-time download of the on-device AI — and Wonaby checks with you before using mobile data for it. On the free plan, dictation goes through your phone's own speech service, which may reach for the network.
Two things. Most apps are good at storing and poor at giving anything back — Wonaby is built around the retrospective, the moment where a week you'd already lost comes back with three things in it you'd forgotten. And every other app that tells you something about your journal has to read it to do that, usually by sending your entries to a model it doesn't control. Wonaby's AI runs on your phone, so you never trade privacy for insight, which is what makes it safe to write the honest version rather than the presentable one.
Your camera roll stores everything and explains nothing. Thousands of photos, and you still can't say what that week was. Wonaby is built for the other half of the job: it takes the ordinary moments you saved and hands them back as something readable, on the day you'd want them.
It suits ADHD brains well, though it isn't built only for them. There's no rigid routine, no streak to reset and nothing here to judge you. Capture takes about ten seconds, which is a length that works with how attention actually moves, and you can miss a day or a whole month and pick up whenever you're ready. There is genuinely nothing to break.
No. Wonaby is not therapy, not wellness and not a clinical tool. It doesn't diagnose, score, coach you or assign you a feeling you didn't choose. It's a private record of your own life that reflects real patterns from what you actually recorded — recognition, not self-improvement.
You keep it. Export everything you've written, photos included, into one file you hold — readable text, a data file, or both — and move it anywhere you like. Wonaby deletes its copy the moment you've saved it. Your record of your own life shouldn't depend on whether a company still exists in ten years, so the export is permanent and it's on every plan, free included.
If privacy is what you're weighing, the question to ask is where the AI runs. Any app that generates insight across months of entries normally has to send those entries to a model it doesn't control. Wonaby refuses that trade structurally: day notes, retrospectives, pattern detection and the chat over your own journal all run on the phone, and your content is end-to-end encrypted before it syncs, so only you can read it.
No. Nothing is sent to you on a schedule. Open Insights, tap your week, and it's written for you on the spot, mid-week included, with no time locks. The one thing in Wonaby that comes to you is a reminder, and only if you set one: one a day, at a time and in a tone you choose, which opens that day's note. One switch turns it off.
Nothing you wrote changes. Every moment and day note stays on your phone, and the export works on every plan. You go back to the free plan's limits: one weekly recap a month, five moments a day and five feelings. Moments tagged with a category that's no longer included keep their tag and colour. If you'd made more custom categories or tags than the free plan allows, Wonaby switches off the least-used extras rather than deleting them, and tells you so. Past Ask Wonaby conversations stay on your phone to read and keep, but starting a new one needs Pro again.
Yes. A moment is saved on the phone in your hand the instant you tap, and syncs privately across your devices when you're online. Your journal is sealed on your device before it syncs, so the copy that travels can't be read by anyone but you. Reminder settings and Ask Wonaby conversations stay in sync too.
